The CAA has partnered with the Consulting Engineers of Alberta (CEA) to develop a document that provides insight and guidance to clients and member firms as they define the anticipated scope of work and determine an appropriate fee for services. Appropriate fees are commensurate with a level of service that will increase the likelihood of project success and reduce risk. Abnormally low fees are known to reduce likelihood of project success and increase risk, including increasing the overall project cost. The CAA/CEA fee guidelines provide a standard by which clients and Consultants can gauge whether a fee is appropriate or abnormally low. The CAA has created a calculator for use by Clients and Owners to estimate what anticipated design fees on a project might be. Note that the calculator is an estimate as fees and the breakdown of fees may vary from project to project.
