MENTORSHIP PROGRAMS
The Consulting Architects of Alberta is committed to supporting the growth of our member firms by offering mentorship programs designed to support emerging architectural and licensed interior design practices as they launch, grow, and navigate the realities of firm ownership.
CAA Practice Connect
Launching and growing an architectural or licensed interior design practice in its early years presents unique challenges that are rarely addressed in formal education. To support firms in their first five years of operation, we are pleased to introduce a new One-on-One Mentorship Program designed specifically for emerging architectural and licensed interior design practices.
This program connects principals of newer firms with experienced professionals who have navigated the complexities of practice ownership. Mentors will share practical insight on topics such as business operations, project delivery, contracts, risk management, staffing, client relationships, and long-term practice sustainability.
The mentorship program is intended to provide a confidential, collegial environment where participants can ask questions, discuss real-world challenges, and learn from peers who have “been there before.” Whether you are refining your business model, managing growth, or seeking guidance on day-to-day practice issues, this program offers practical support tailored to the realities of running a young firm.
Participation is open to:
Mentees
-
architectural and licensed interior design firms in their first 0–5 years of practice;
-
architects and licensed interior designers who are serious about starting a firm but haven't done so yet;
-
Registered Architect or Licensed Interior Designer (or signed up for final oral exam).
Mentors
-
Registered Architects or Licensed Interior Designers with experience in starting or running a firm for more than 8 years;
-
Retired Architects or Licensed Interior Designers with experience in starting or running a firm for more than 8 years.
2026 Program Kick-Off Event:
Mentor–Mentee Matching Session
The Mentorship Program will launch with an interactive kick-off event designed to help mentors and mentees make meaningful connections. This first session will use a structured “speed-dating” format, allowing participants to meet one-on-one in a series of short, focused conversations.
The format is intended to give both mentors and mentees the opportunity to discuss practice interests, goals, and challenges, and to determine where there may be a strong fit. Following the session, participants’ preferences will be used to pair mentors and mentees for the duration of the program. (NOTE: mentees will state their top 3 choices for mentors. As mentors might get multiple mentees requesting them on their top 3 list, but will only be assigned one mentee unless they give special permission to have more).
This kick-off event is a key part of ensuring productive, well-aligned mentorship relationships and sets the foundation for open, constructive engagement throughout the program.
This event will be announced once we have people signed up interested for both the Mentor and Mentee roles.
Use the buttons below to express your interest in participating as a Mentor or Mentee in Edmonton or in Calgary.
NOTE: This program is open to CAA Members only.
