DESIGN SERVICES DURING PROCUREMENT

The CAA recommends design services not be required as part of a procurement process (e.g. within a Request for Proposal), unless compensated in accordance with the guidelines for design competitions established by the RAIC, or mandated by the AAA.

Any designs that might be suggested within a proposal are hampered by lack of access to stakeholders and the collaborative process that informs and inspires appropriate solutions leading to project success.

An appropriate process includes client’s requesting that:

• Proponents provide examples from their portfolio that describe their approach to similar building exteriors and/or interiors (references to existing work).
   

• Proponents outline their methodology for how they would approach working with the client, including their creative approach.
